Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®- Pasadena/Altadena Chapter in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation successfully held its Annual Scholarship Jazz Brunch Fundraiser that was themed Leaders of Tomorrow, Champions of Change was held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Le Méridien Hotel in Arcadia, CA. The event brought together over 300 attendees from the community to celebrate community icons and scholarship recipients.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of scholarships to deserving college-bound students, recognizing their academic achievements, leadership qualities, and commitment to excellence. This year, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®Pasadena/Altadena Chapter, in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation, proudly awarded $25,200 in scholarships and book awards to 13 deserving students to provide vital financial assistance that helps them pursue their higher education dreams. In addition to honoring the academic achievements of students, the Annual Scholarship Jazz Brunch Fundraiser also recognized the contributions of community leaders who have made a significant impact through their dedication and service. Three esteemed community leaders, Rev. Dr. Larry E. Campbell (First A.M.E Church, Pasadena), Brenda Harvey-Williams (City of Pasadena), and Dr. Nancy Gonzalez (John Muir High School), were honored with awards for their outstanding commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. The event also featured a highlight of our rich culture with assistance from the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Grand Jeremy, and a captivating jazz performance by international saxophonist J. Boykins. Attendees were treated to a melodic fusion of rhythm and harmony, creating an ambiance of celebration that resonated throughout the venue. This event supported black entrepreneurship with a variety of black-owned businesses sporting a myriad of beautiful merchandise.
The generous support and contributions of donors, volunteers, and attendees made the fundraiser's success possible.
