The Pasadena/ Altadena Ivy Foundation partnered with the Pasadena/ Altadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to team up with the Lions Clubs International "Recycle for Sight" program to help collect eyewear for people in need.
The Lions sponsor this program because refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions living in low and middle income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities.

Because the ability to clearly see is crucial to learning and surviving in life, PAIF and the Pasadena Chapter of AKA partner with the Pasadena Lions to leverage their program to impact our target market and make a difference for low income families in need. Through this partnership, PAIF in partnership with the Pasadena Chapter of AKA collected over 165 pairs of glasses during the 2019 -2020 season.
This objective was achieved by collecting glasses at chapter meetings in the begining, but COVID-19 introduced challenges. These challenges were overcaoe by holding 2 summer collection drive-by events that allowed donors to Drive-Up, Drop-Off, and Drive-On! The events were a huge success where safety and social distancing were in full effect and homemade hand sanitizer was provided to the first 8 donors on each day.
