SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:Donate \nThe Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. day with service in our community. Dr. King inspired so many people and touched so many lives.  His impact on the world through his ministry earned a National Holiday in his name that celebrates and honors him as it keeps his dream alive. Racism and equality were two areas that Dr. King ministered about during his time and we must continue to lead by example because we still struggle with these issues in our communities.  We still have a lot of work to do\, and as dedicated members of the Pasadena Chapter of AKA in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation\, we are committed to serving all mankind which means giving back to those that are in need. \n\nWe will honor Dr. King on Monday\, January 21\, 2019 by supporting our veterans\, low income families\, and children of incarcerated parents through giving them grocery store gift cards so they can put food on their tables.\nWe will  also donate blankets\, coats\, gloves\, hats\, socks and scarfs to Union Station Homeless Shelter in Pasadena.\n\nWe know that service and giving back to others is a strong way to make a difference in our community and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation is passionate about serving and doing work that continues to honor Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. \nYou can join us in this endeavor by making a donation on this website and designating it for MLK Day of Service.

SUMMARY:Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising
DESCRIPTION:Donate \n \n"There has been a 30% decrease in breast cancer mortality in the US from 1989- 2015" \n- Susan G. Komen Website \n  \nBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States\, accounting for nearly one in three cancers diagnosed in women. The death rate for African-American women is 42% higher than white women. Significantly\, African-American women are nearly twice as likely as white women to be diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which is more aggressive\, spreads to other parts of the body faster and is harder to treat than other forms of breast cancer. \nAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority recognizes that early detection is a critical first step in fighting this dreadful disease. We have committed to make an impact by combating the devastating effects breast cancer has on our members\, loved ones and families through education and mammogram screenings. \nAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is committed to finding solutions to issues concerning young girls and women. In an effort to accomplish this objective\, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. is partnering with the Susan G. Komen in their fight to end breast cancer. \nThe Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in partnership with the  Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation  is doing our part to impact this disease and support Susan G. Komen by raising funds throughout the month of October to support finding a cure for Breast Cancer. \nWhether you are a survivor\, family member\, friend\, or supporter we ask that you to make a small donation to contribute towards making a large impact.
