SUMMARY:Shoe Drive for Asm Chris Holden Holiday Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Donations \nThe Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. in partnership with PAIF are \n \nsupporting Asm. Chris Holden's Annual Holiday Shoe Drive on Saturday\, December 5\, 2020.   As in the past\, he is partnering with Shoes That Fit to raise donations for under served children that need shoes.  Children that don’t have shoes that fit do not achieve in school.  It is for this reason that we support this worthy cause to provide new shoes to our youth. \nUnfortunately\, COVID has required that this year's event be changed to a "Give-and-Go" shoe drop-off that will take place at Asm Holden's office.   Our goal is to support this event by raising $1000 to purchase shoes for this much needed cause that serves children in need of Shoes That Fit within our community.  Your donation to this cause is greatly appreciated!  All monies will be compiled together and we'll make a donation. \nIf you want to make a donation directly\, below is the information for the "Give-and-Go." \nSaturday\, December 5\n10 - 11:30 a.m. \n41st Assembly District Office\n600 N. Rosemead Blvd\, Suite 117\nPasadena\, CA 91107 \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:HBCU 4 LIFE - Let's Make an Impact!
DESCRIPTION:Donate \n\n\n\nThe Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to funding programs that align with our mission and purpose. Building stronger leaders and communities are at the core of our work. You can help advance the mission of PAIF by making a tax-deductible donation today. \nEducation is essential to lifelong success.  Black Americans were historically denied access to higher education in white institutions.  In order to overcome this problem\, we founded our own colleges that are now known as Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). \nRecognizing that HBCU funding is one of the primary obstacles that threaten the long-term growth and survival of HBCUs\, members will be encouraged to financially support HBCUs.  At the International level Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. has implemented an AKA HBCU Endowment Initiative in partnership with the Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) that will endow a scholarship at each accredited four-year HBCU. The goal is to stamp the Alpha Kappa Alpha brand of financial support on each HBCU campus to help students remain in school\, complete their course of study\, and receive their college degrees. \nIn order to support this endeavor\, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. - Pasadena Chapter is partnering with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation to raise funds.  We have a goal of a minimum of $1000 to support this cause.  Please help us to achieve this objective by making a donation. \n  \nDonate

SUMMARY:Scholarship Jazz Brunch
DESCRIPTION:Make a Donation \nDear Friends and Family of PAIF\, \nThe Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation (Foundation)\, in coordination with the leadership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.\, Eta Lambda Omega Chapter (Pasadena\, CA)\, recognizes the public health risks the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) poses not only to our community\, but communities around the world. \nIn an abundance of caution\, and in response to the March 19\, 2020 “Shelter-In-Place” order by California State Governor Gavin Newsom; we have decided to cancel the May 9\, 2020 Scholarship Jazz Brunch (SJB). \nWhile the cancellation of the Scholarship Jazz Brunch does not eclipse our commitment to both recognize and award the scholastic achievement of matriculating high school seniors in the San Gabriel Valley\, it is important to note that we will proceed with awarding scholarships in 2020 as planned. \nOur commitment to help mitigate any potential transmission of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)\, far outweighs the financial loss the Foundation will encounter this year as a result of cancelling this event. While we will honor any SJB refund requested between now and May 9\, 2020\, we do ask that you wholeheartedly consider converting your ticket purchase into a 100% tax deductible donation to the Pasadena Altadena Ivy Foundation as your donation will help fund the scholarships for 2021. \nIf you have already purchased a SJB ticket or have paid for a vendor booth\, you may request a refund by emailing INFO@THEPAIF.ORG. Again\, registered guests and vendors who do not request a refund by the aforementioned date\, will have their ticket purchase converted to a tax deductible donation. As always\, donor receipts will be available upon request. We thank you in advance for your continued support of our scholars. Stay safe\, be well and we will be back with this amazing and worthwhile event in 2021! \nSincerely\,\nNaShawn Bacon\nPresident\, Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation \nAshley Vickers\nPresident\, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.\, Eta Lambda Omega Chapter (Pasadena\, CA) \nMake a Donation \n

SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:Donate \nThe Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. day with service in our community. Dr. King inspired so many people and touched so many lives.  His impact on the world through his ministry earned a National Holiday in his name that celebrates and honors him as it keeps his dream alive. Racism and equality were two areas that Dr. King ministered about during his time and we must continue to lead by example because we still struggle with these issues in our communities.  We still have a lot of work to do\, and as dedicated members of the Pasadena Chapter of AKA in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation\, we are committed to serving all mankind which means giving back to those that are in need. \n\nWe will honor Dr. King on Monday\, January 21\, 2019 by supporting our veterans\, low income families\, and children of incarcerated parents through giving them grocery store gift cards so they can put food on their tables.\nWe will  also donate blankets\, coats\, gloves\, hats\, socks and scarfs to Union Station Homeless Shelter in Pasadena.\n\nWe know that service and giving back to others is a strong way to make a difference in our community and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation is passionate about serving and doing work that continues to honor Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. \nYou can join us in this endeavor by making a donation on this website and designating it for MLK Day of Service.

SUMMARY:Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising
DESCRIPTION:Donate \n \n"There has been a 30% decrease in breast cancer mortality in the US from 1989- 2015" \n- Susan G. Komen Website \n  \nBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States\, accounting for nearly one in three cancers diagnosed in women. The death rate for African-American women is 42% higher than white women. Significantly\, African-American women are nearly twice as likely as white women to be diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which is more aggressive\, spreads to other parts of the body faster and is harder to treat than other forms of breast cancer. \nAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority recognizes that early detection is a critical first step in fighting this dreadful disease. We have committed to make an impact by combating the devastating effects breast cancer has on our members\, loved ones and families through education and mammogram screenings. \nAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is committed to finding solutions to issues concerning young girls and women. In an effort to accomplish this objective\, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. is partnering with the Susan G. Komen in their fight to end breast cancer. \nThe Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in partnership with the  Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation  is doing our part to impact this disease and support Susan G. Komen by raising funds throughout the month of October to support finding a cure for Breast Cancer. \nWhether you are a survivor\, family member\, friend\, or supporter we ask that you to make a small donation to contribute towards making a large impact.

DESCRIPTION:Donate \nThe Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation is partnering with the Pasadena/Altadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. to support Assemblymember Chris Holden’s 18th Annual Community Resources Block Party that is taking place on Saturday\, 8/5/17 from 11 AM - 3 PM.\nThe purpose of the block party is to get information out to the community in an exciting and family friendly way. With this event taking place two weeks prior to school starting\, these organizations feel that it would be a great time to make a difference in the community by giving away over 100 backpacks that will be filled with school supplies targeted for elementary and secondary school students. Many of the recipients will be low income and need this additional helping hand in order to get their kids ready for school. \nAs we strive to make a difference and make sure our children have the tools they need to learn\, please support us by making a donation.
